Are your containers safe to ship in the mail?

Yes, as long as the container is filled and shipped properly. Our containers and shipping boxes have been rigorously tested by an independent company, and approved by the U.S. Postal Service for mail back sharps.

Can we put loose sharps in the wide mouth buckets?

No. Loose sharps may not be placed in the wide mouth buckets. Sharps can only be inside an approved sharps container and then the sharps container can be placed in the bucket.

Can we mail our own containers back to Medasend?

Yes, if they fit inside one of our Medical Waste Wide Mouth Buckets. If not, you will have to dispose of those in another way. Using our kits is more economical once you begin using our service. Our containers and shipping boxes have been rigorously tested by an independant company and approved by the U.S. Postal Service for transport through the mail. ONLY THE CONTAINERS WE SEND TO YOU INSIDE THE ENCLOSED SHIPPING CARTON ARE APPROVED BY THE USPS TO BE SHIPPED IIN THE BOX THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT. Any other method of shipment is not in compliance with the U.S. Postal Service regulations.

Is there a restocking fee if I want to return my order?

Yes. We charge a 60% restocking fee for all returned orders.

How full do I fill the sharps container?

Fill the container just up to the fill line indicated on the sharps container. NEVER OVERFILL! You must be able to securely close and lock the container prior to shipment.

How often do I send in the container?

Send in your container when you fill it.

Do I need to put the caps back on the needles?

No. Never re-cap your needles. Doing so could cause needlesticks. Simply drop your needles into the container.

Where do I put the container?

Put the container in a convenient location. SAVE YOUR RETURN SHIPPING CARTON! You MUST return your sharps container in the enclosed shipping container.

Can I put blood in the container?

No. No amount of any liquid can be put into the sharps container. The U.S. Postal service will only accept the container if it is used according to their strict specifications, and you, the customer, will be held responsible for any leakage due to filling the container with unacceptable materials.

What can I put in the sharps container?

Sharps include any contaminated sharp instrument, such as: needles, syringes, scalpels, lancets, orthodontic wires, blood-tainted knife blades, contaminated broken glassware and glass slides, etc. Please see the list in the right column. You may put swabs, bandages, and other biohazardous waste into our wide mouth bucket systems, provided that it contains NO LIQUID.

How much can I mail in one box?

The largest sharps container system is the three gallon system. The largest medical waste bucket wide mouth system is five gallons. The maximum weight per box is 25 pounds. These are according to USPS regulations.

Is your mail back service approved in all 50 states of the US?

Yes. Medasend’s mail-back service is approved in all 50 states. You can see your state’s health department if you click on the State Health Departments.

We have been using a truck pick up. Is it legal for us to use mail back?

Yes. It is acceptable and legal to use mailback. Please see maximum amount in the next question. With our mail back service, you are provided with the proper documentation to keep you in compliance with all regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA and your state’s DHS.

What are the papers for that came with my containers?

Your containers were shipped with individual destruction manifests. You must complete the customer section of the form, sign it, keep the customer copy and seal the remaining copies back in the shipping envelope. When your waste has been destroyed, you will receive a final copy of the manifest, showing that it was properly destroyed.

Is there a contract to sign?

No. Your purchase includes the containers, postage both ways, and destruction of your waste.
